Orpheus and Eurydice

I, Orpheus, demi-god son of Apollo and the muse Calliope, shall sing of the tragic death of my beloved wife, the tree nymph Eurydice. But I do not accept such a cruel fate for her. I journey into the depths of the underworld and perform for King Hades and Queen Persephone, moving them with my sorrowful song. They give me permission to lead her spirit up to the surface if I only promise to not look back as we ascend. Once back up in the land of the living, my pitiful tale is far from over.
