For the final conclusion to this Series I wanted to portray a warm and comforting final image, honoring the legacy of Orpheus. I think the variety in warm versus cool colors, and the twilight style palette, is the most successful aspect of this image. I thought this idea of the nightingales singing above his grave was really poignant, so I placed them on a branch extending near his mouth to convey this idea that they are singing from his own voice.

My severed head and Lyre, still singing, float out to sea, eventually coming upon the shore of Lesbos, where I continue to sing to patrons. I am even interpreted by an oracle until Apollo intercedes, as it competes with his oracle at Delphi. Eventually, the muses collect my dismembered body and head, and bury them upon the foot of Mount Olympus, where the nightingales sing above my grave. Through the support of Apollo and the Muses, Zeus casts my lyre up into the night sky as the constellation Lyra, honoring my musical powers for eternity.
