I always have a blast designing and illustrating monsters, and it doesn't get much more epic in scale than Typhon! I chose to make Zeus quite small to show contrast in scale between the enemies, and make Typhon more imposing. I also chose a composition which has Zeus surrounded by the limbs of Typhon, to express a feeling of being trapped. I'm always trying to push my compositional skills to new heights, and you may notice I favor asymmetric compositions to create visual interest. I knew I wanted Typhon to be red, so I chose a complementary green for the background, and the oranges and yellows for fire and lightning bolt as bright spot color focal points. I'm really proud to have illustrated this more obscure monster and battle, as there haven't been many visual depictions of this scene by artists throughout history, surprisingly.
