This image was a joy to make as I always relish illustrating monsters. Ive always been a fan of scary creatures and horror films, even as a youngster. I grew up on classic 80's horror film classics like John Carpenter's "The Thing," Cronenberg's "The Fly," and the 1988 "The Blob." Growing up, I was more attracted to the grungier animation aesthetics, preferring films like "The black Cauldron," and "The Secret of Nimh," to the more candy coated and colorful cartoons. Moving into High school I became fascinated with edgy Japanese Animated films like "Fist of the North Star," "Ninja Scroll," "Princess Mononoke," and cyberpunk classics like "Akira," and "Ghost in the Shell." Being so enraptured by these more mature and noir style works growing up, its no secret why my art aesthetic leans into more dark and mysterious tones.
