Nyx and the Spirits of the Night

I really enjoyed creating this image as it leans into the dark and mysterious, a tone I feel very comfortable with. From my thumbnail sketches I knew I wanted to have Nyx be the umbrella deity with her offspring moving out into existence from under her protective canopy. I wanted Nyx herself to have this smoky, ephemeral spirit quality, so I leaned into the curving shapes of her silhouette. In my mind I saw the color pallete as muted and cool, as if only lit with moonlight, and hazy, as if these deities are manifesting from the mists of a dark subconscious.

Reigning over the realm of night, I am the primordial goddess Nyx, the embodiment of the boundless darkness from which dreams and death springs forth.  From my dark realm I give birth to a host of powerful deities. Moros weaves tragic fates for mortals, while Thanatos and Hypnos, gentle twins, guide souls and bring sleep. The Oneiroi, winged spirits of dreams, flit through the night with dream omens. My daughters, the Keres and Morai, govern death and destiny, while Nemesis seeks justice. And, Alas! My daughter, cruel Eris, spreads strife and chaos with her dreadful children.
