I believe this is the first time ive ever illustrated a romantic encounter between a mortal and a cloud of golden rain. I'm always excited for these types of images out of myths and fairytales, as its something different than the standard "hero versus the beast" imagery. (which I also love!) I felt like Danae would be pretty lonely trapped in her underground bronze chamber, so I wanted to make her longing for affection and connection, thus, reaching up to the cloud and the warmth and connection Zeus offers in this fascinating and unique scene from Greek myth. I also sometimes like to make natural phenomenon like tree branches or water droplets more graphic pattern type shapes, and I'm still developing and exploring my style in this regard.

I, Perseus, shall first tell you of my divine birth. My grandfather, King Akrisiosof Argos, receives an ominous warning from the oracle that his daughter, Danae, will give birth to a child that will slay the king. Thus, he imprisons my mother within an underground Bronze chamber, keeping her far from any suitors. But lord Zeus morphs into a gaseous cloud, permeates through the cracks of the chamber, and impregnates her with golden rain. When Danae later gives birth to me, a little boy she names Perseus, the king devises a cruel plan for us both.
