This map didn't follow my typical pencil sketch to color process. I knew I wanted it to have an old world charm, so I grabbed a few maps online to make sure the geography would be accurate. I dove into this image with more confidence as the elements are quite limited and I am bound by the geography. The creative decisions I needed to make were for color pallete, textures, fonts, etc. I started with something super basic just to try to establish the weathered feel and limited color palette, and as it progressed I added floating clouds. Later, when working with Sako on this site and we began to focus more on the parallax of layers, I decided to raise the land off the map and add a drop shadow, for a more dimensional, "cut-out" type of feel.
