Cursed Mortals

66a0a7922bdfd06a6a05cc2f

As always with such ambitious images with so many elements to include, it becomes a juggling act to create a pleasing composition that isn't overly crowded. As you can see from my initial color sketch, I had originally planned on a much warmer color palette, but I wanted to veer away from Tartarus feeling like "hell," so in the end, I went with cooler and darker blues and greys to make it feel oppressive. It was also important that this image feel much different from the warmer tones of the "Blessed Mortals" image.

From the heights of the heavens, we Gods watch as those cursed mortals are bent and broken by our divine retribution. Some are condemned to futile and repetitive tasks, while others suffer unnatural desires or incomplete wishes. Their grief serves as a reminder of the destructive power of hubris, betrayal, and familial curses. In the shadow of Olympus, the boundaries between triumph and tragedy blur, revealing the eternal truth that even the mightiest of mortals are but pawns in the hands of us gods.
