Wearing the lion

Auntie Hera taught me to cherish family, but when a god’s madness destroyed mine, I was left broken and searching for answers. On impossible labors, I’ve found kinship with the monsters I was sent to destroy, building a new family to stand against the heavens. Yet, the closer I get to the truth, the more I fear it could shatter everything I have left.

This was a really fun illustration cover and an incredibly smooth process to get from sketch to final book cover. Debbie at Arcadia Books sent me the brief with some general elements to be included, and I whipped up a composition and color palette that everyone reacted positively to. We wanted the piece to have a warm and cozy vibe. John, the author, included some notes on a few things he wanted to see in the image, namely a more accurate costume and the temple and statue of Hera. I was also able to give the cover font text some illustration love, and I am really pleased with the vibrancy and charming tone of the final image.
