I, Plato, see that this essential reference text on my life and philosophy offers a comprehensive guide to both newcomers and seasoned scholars. It is organized into five parts that explore my life, the Dialogues attributed to me, their literary features, the key concepts within them, and the influence my work has had on later philosophers. This updated edition incorporates new entries on diverse topics such as comedy, gender, political theory, and Orphism, with revisions and additions that enhance its value for ongoing study and scholarship. It reflects the expanding diversity of Plato scholarship, providing vital resources for those seeking to understand my thought and its impact.

This amazing opportunity came about because one of the editors, Mateo Duque, was a fan of my work and wanted to commission me to pitch an image to Bloomsbury for the book cover. We had a wonderful collaboration as we explored many different sketches for potential covers, which I've included here in the process images. In the end, he liked the sketch of Socrates and Phaedrus sitting in discussion. Sadly, the other editor, Gerald A. Press, passed away unexpectedly right after the book was published. I received a lovely note from Geralds partner, letting me know how much the art print meant to her, and it's one of the most powerful emails I’ve ever received. This image now holds a much deeper significance for me, as a tribute to Gerald and his legacy, and to all of us curious knowledge seekers on our journeys.
